Call for Participants – SWIP Italia

14 Giugno 2018

Inauguration of the Italian Society for Women in Philosophy (SWIP Italia). The founding assembly will take place on the 14th of June 2018, 5 p.m., at the University of Turin (Campus Luigi Einaudi, Via Lungo Dora Siena 100/A, Sala Lauree Blu).

The first SWIP was born in the U.S. in 1972 with the aim of sustaining women in the profession, promoting the work by women in philosophy, and denouncing and countering gender discrimination in academia. Since then, many different sister branches have been founded across Europe and the rest of the world (UK, Canada, Ireland, Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Turkey). The assembly in Turin will be the founding act of SWIP Italia, getting inspiration from the already existing SWIPs while addressing the elements specific to the Italian situation.

Participation is open to whomever is interested in becoming a member, or sustaining the society’s mission. Registration is not required. Participation via webinar is available upon request to swip.italia@gmail.com.

The assembly will follow a Symposium on Kate Manne’s (Cornell University, NY) latest book, Down Girl: The Logic of Misogyny (OUP 2017). Kate Manne will also be participating in the symposium.
